The EU Blue Card is a special case. It is specifically for academics who do not come from an EU country and simplifies the process of obtaining a work and residence permit. It must be applied for at a German embassy or consulate in the country of origin before entering Germany. The Blue Card is subject to simplified visa and residence regulations.
