Job search & application

Numerous large and high-revenue companies have their headquarters in the Ruhr metropolis. They offer countless job opportunities in all sectors. But the city and district administrations of the Ruhr metropolis are also attractive employers! In addition to a wide range of public service tasks, they offer a lot of project development work, as the structural change is not yet complete.

Attractive employers and exciting job offers

If you do not yet have a vocational qualification or do not yet know which profession you would like to work in, you can obtain information at a vocational information centre (BIZ) or online at Berufenet. There you will find information on all occupations, a description of the activities in this occupation and information on the qualifications required for this occupation. The staff at the BIZ or the employment agency can also tell you which professions will give you a good chance of finding a job in the Ruhr region. A list of occupations for which there are currently too few applicants in Germany can be found on the website mangelberufe.de. Information on studying can be found in the chapter "University system".

Application

Have you found a suitable job advert? Now it's time to apply for it. To do this, first send your written application documents to the company you would like to apply to. A written application usually consists of a cover letter, CV and references. Here you will find information on what you should look out for in an application, which documents you need and how an interview is organised: Job search and application | Handbook Germany

Working Agency

One of the first places to go when looking for a job is your local employment agency. You can register as a jobseeker there and receive help and advice. You can also find a job exchange on the employment agency's website where you can search for suitable jobs.

There are other job boards on the Internet. You can register there and usually create a profile in which you describe your qualifications and experience. The job board will then usually send you new vacancies that match your profile every day. This means you don't have to search for suitable jobs yourself every day. Companies can also become aware of you in this way. The major job exchanges on the Internet include www.monster.dewww.stepstone.dewww.jobbörse.dewww.adzuna.de and Make-it-in-Germany.de.
