STUDYING IN THE RUHRGEBIET
GET STARTED AT ONE OF THE MANY UNIVERSITIES IN THE RUHRGEBIET
Studying in the Ruhr area means you have a huge choice of study options. This applies not only to the individual subjects, but above all to the number and variety of universities in the Ruhrgebiet.
UNIVERSITY CENTRE RUHRGEBIET
With an area of just under 4,440 square kilometres, the Ruhr region is one of the smaller regions in Germany. But nowhere else do more people live in this space. And almost one in 20 of them is a student - also more than in any other German metropolis. No wonder, because with 22 universities, the scientific community forms a denser network than anywhere else in Germany.
You can find an overview of all colleges and universities in the Ruhr region here.
STUDYING IN A LIVELY METROPOLIS
But beyond your studies, the Ruhr region has everything you need for student life: affordable housing, jobs and a wide range of cultural, sporting and leisure activities. The semester ticket also allows you to travel quickly and cheaply from place to place throughout the Ruhr area - whether by train, underground or bus.
REQUIREMENTS, APPLICATION AND ENROLLMENT
REQUIREMENTS, APPLICATION AND ENROLLMENT

The prerequisite for studying at a German university is a higher education entrance qualification (in German: HZB). Before you enroll at a university in the Ruhr region, you should find out whether your school-leaving certificate is accepted as a university entrance qualification.
Often, knowledge of German is also one of the prerequisites for studying at a university in the Ruhr region, as most subjects are taught in German.
All information on important requirements can be found on the information portal of the German Academic Exchange Service (in German: DAAD):

Application Process
How and where you have to apply to study at a German university depends on which subject you would like to study, where you graduated from school and which university degree, e.g. Bachelor's or Master's, you are aiming to achieve.
All information about the application, application documents, admission restrictions and a checklist can be found here: Application for a study place
Enrollment
Have you decided on a study place and - if necessary - been accepted? Then you need to enroll at the university. This is known as enrollment. If you are enrolled - or matriculated - you can attend courses, use the library and take examinations as a student at the university.
